John B. McBride
888-255-7088
John McBride, has been practicing law since his admission to the bar in 1993. His principal areas of practice are bankruptcy, estate planning, estate administration, business taxation and tax planning. He is also currently Of Counsel to the law firm
of Shatzkin & Mayer, P.C. , in New York City. Formerly, Mr. McBride was a member of the law firm Sullivan, McBride, Hess & Youngblood, P.C., in Albany, New York.
Mr. McBride has believes that the ability to pay attorney's fees should not be a barrier to accessing the courts. The 2005 changes to bankruptcy law made filing bankruptcy more difficult. Bankruptcy relief is still available for people who need it, but often it is more expensive to hire an attorney. Mr. McBride will take into consideration his clients' ability to pay in determining the appropriate fee to charge.
From many years handling litigation, tax planning, business succession planning and representation of debtors in bankruptcy, Mr. McBride has also developed expertise in assisting businesses and their owners who are in a financial crisis.
Mr. McBride attended the American School of Paris, France. He earned his B.A. at Cornell University in 1972. After other professional activities, he attended Albany Law School of Union College, obtaining his law degree cum laude in 1992.
At law school, he was awarded the Fleet Investment Services Award, the Helen T. Wilkinson Award and the Ira Mark Bloom Award.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. McBride worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax and General Litigation Attorney. As such, Mr. McBride was a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, representing the IRS in Bankruptcy Court. Mr. McBride is a co-author of "Guardianship Practice in New York State" (New York Bar Association 1997).
